January 2009

Works Alexander Sprites

Thanks to Russ Filby of the Turner Register for additional material about the Alexander Works Sprites, added to the "Oft Mistaken" page.

Major update to "Oft Mistaken" Spridgets hardtops and fronts page

We have added details of the Kellison sprite front, and the Lenham, Finlay Panorama, Donald Healey "Warwick", Peasmarsh, Classic Car Crafts Bermuda and Pride & Clark "Dan Dare" hardtops for spridgets to the W&P Competitors' page.

best wishes for a happy and healthy 2009

Danish Sebring GT fronted Midget and Sprite

Thanks to Jørgen Lind (owner of the white Sprite on the right) who has got in touch to add his car to the Register, along with details of another Danish Sebring GT fronted car, the blue midget on the left. For more details about his car, click on the image above. More details about the blue midget hopefully follow after the festive season!

Sebring GT hardtop added to the Register

Philip Andrews from the US got in touch recently to say that his father in the UK has an intact Sebring GT hardtop on his '69 Sprite which is awaiting restoration. Great to know that another survives given their extreme rarity. Please click on the image above for more information.

Deep Sanderson / LawrenceTune

Thanks to Chris Lawrence, we have added three new pages to the website cataloguing W&P's involvement in Chris Lawrence's projects (in addition to the SLRs). These include the Deep Sanderson 105 Twinny, Deep Sanderson 301 prototype Le Mans car (above), and an "unused" prototype for the early seventies Monica luxury GT project. Click on image above or links on the left to access the new information. More information, particularly on the 301, follows from its owner Guy Loverage (shown above) in due course.

Fresh W&P adverts

Thanks to Albert Voogd for a range of W&P and Twyford Auto Conversions (W&P main agents) adverts from CCC magazine between 1970 and 1973. Of particular interest are an advert for the MGB targa top that W&P produced for a very limited period, and an advert for Fibresports just after the transfer of W&P fibreglass business in 1973 which coroborates that the full Sebring GT range transferred across to them.

Alexander Turner GT restoration

The Alexander Turner GT now has paint and is back with its owners for the rebuild to begin in earnest. Click on images above for more info about this gorgeous little one-off competition car bodied by W&P, and its restoration.

W&P "Number One" - their first body

The tale of W&P's very first body from 1948, made for a 1935 Frazer Nash BMW, with a photographic record and previously unpublished historic images from the Pritchard family archive. Many thanks to the Penneys for photographs and detailed written history. Click on image above or link on the left to access the new page.

Sprinzel Sebring Sprite and Sebring GT Midget together at the NEC Classic Car Show 2008

Celebrating 50 years of the Spridget, two W&P bodied cars were on display on the Midget and Sprite Club stand at the Classic Car Show, Birmingham NEC. Jonathan Whitehouse-Bird's 410 EAO, one of the 6 Sprinzel Sebring Sprite competition cars was on the stand, as was Tim Saunders' later Sebring GT bodied road car, along with 8 other midget and sprite variants. This was a very rare chance to see two complete examples of the two versions of W&P spridget styling together. Highlights included a previously unknown former owner of 410 EAO being unexpectedly reunited with his old racer. Click on images above to access photo slide show.

Another two Sebring GT bonneted cars found

Another new Sebring GT bonneted sprite has been located in the UK, along with a Lenham backed one in Holland - hopefully more details follow soon.
