Bonneted Mk III Midget

Ron Simmonds got in touch from Victoria, Australia about this 1969 Sebring GT fronted midget he is in the process of restoring:

"My name is Ron Simmonds and I live in Healesville, a town in the Yarra Valley about 60 km east of Melbourne - Australia. About two years ago I heard of a Sebring fronted 1969 MG midget for sale through a friend who knew of the car in Ringwood, east of Melbourne, although not really looking for a new project the asking price was to good to turn down. (I already had a '64 Mini Cooper and an '81 Mazda RX7 to play with).

The MG had some body repairs already, such as the floors, rear lower guards and sills, but had been left out in the weather. Although it was fitted with a factory hard top, the dreaded moisture had made the carpets and interior very mouldy and damp. The car is now nearing being put on the road again, only needing the trim doing and all the other hundreds of little things to finish it off.

The colour is Indigo Blue (an original BMC colour in 1969 in Australia) and the hardtop will be the original  white. It would appear as if it may have had some racing history, as it has a good roll bar, works extractors, side draught Dellauto carbie, battery cut out switch etc.I am still trying  to trace its history through the MG club in Victoria.

I was at the Winton Historic races recently doing one of my other jobs as course Commentator and I happened to be discussing on-air my restoration of the MG, and it was heard by John Shepherdson of the Lenham Spridget Register (good to know someone was listening) and he looked me up after the meeting to tell me of this great Sebring website, thanks John. Looking forward to hearing from any like minded owners."

We look forward to hearing more from Ron as the restoration progresses.
